Delegate for District 38B - Carl Anderton Jr.

Taxes

Taxes

It would be difficult to overestimate how damaging the spend and tax culture in Annapolis has been to our state, particularly the Lower Eastern Shore.  Governor O’Malley has continually come back to the legislative session in January with a budget in the red.  In spite of over 80 new or increased taxes and fees, spending still outstrips the collected tax revenue.  Therefore, the citizenry is forever digging deeper and deeper into their wallets to bail out the “leaders”, while the state debt rises.

Specifically, my opponent, Delegate Norm Conway, has voted over and over to increase taxes and fees- during the great recession! While our local moms, dads, and grandparents were tightening their belts, Delegate Conway went full speed with taking more and more of their (our) money to fund pet projects on the western shore.

Unbelievably, raising over $9 BILLION in new taxes and fees was not enough to quench the thirst for spending in Annapolis, because our legislature, including Delegate Conway, continued to spend more to the tune of $10 billion.

We cannot continue on this path. Annapolis needs to spend less and lower taxes. This will allow us to reverse the tide of 8,000 businesses who have either shut down or left the state. In addition, if we can become more competitive with our surrounding states we can begin to compete with them for more jobs.

Here is a list of 65 increases that Delegate Norm Conway voted for:
